"What's weirder: piloting a virutal Ellen Page or haunting her through a video-game world? Both happen to be options in Beyond: Two Souls for Playstation 3, an upcoming release by Quantic Dream, which recently debuted 35 minutes of gameplay at the Tribeca Film Festival, in an unprecedented showcase. In the game, you not only play Page as Jodie Holmes, but also Aiden, a paranormal entity that's been tethered to Jodie since she was young. And more than a game, Beyond promises an immersive choose-your-own-adventure experience in which the options take you on an exponential number of emotional journeys. The Japanese games magazine DENGEKI asked 71 Japanese game creators to name their favourite game of 2010. The winner of this survey: HEAVY RAIN.

But the best game title went to Mass Effect 2. The Bafta fellowship was awarded to Populous creator Peter Molyneux. Two of the most nominated games, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, picked up just one award each.

(HEAVY RAIN) is a cinematic- inspired masterpiece. It's a gripping film noir/psychological thriller in the form of interactive entertainment. And it's unlike nearly anything else around.
I have probably spent 10,000 hours playing various sorts of electronic games. But no single-player experience has made me as genuinely nervous, unsettled, surprised, emotionally riven and altogether involved as Heavy Rain, a noir murder mystery inspired by film masters like Hitchcock, Kubrick and David Lynch....
